Science Festival in Lyngby

Science is at the heart of education during week 39

The Danish Science Week takes place during week 39. Here children and young adult can experiment and immerse themselves in science and IT. Prior to 2016, activities in Lyngby during this week have been organised individually by the school, but this year schools, educational institutions and local businesses have made a coordinating effort to organise a science festival in Lyngby.

The purpose of the science festival is to create engaging experiences with natural science and technology among children and young adults. The national initiative is organised by Astra – the Centre for Learning in Science, Technology and Health in Denmark.

”The fact that so many private companies have entered this collaboration in Lyngby adds a whole other dimension to the activities and learning during this week. The students and pupils experience a different angel to the application of science in real life and also an alternative career path. Lyngby can serve as inspiration to other cities, who wish to broaden and strengthen the collaboration between education and corporate life.” says Liva Rønn-Petersen, Head of Events at Astra.

The activities are done in collaboration with a number of local businesses, who support the vision of a greater interest among children and young adults in natural sciences and technology. Among the planned activities are a mass-experiment’, Science Day, ‘Smart Money’ and much more.
