PhD in Facilities Management

A Phd. project

Background

In the fall of 2012 the City of Knowledge network for Climate and Green Technology launched a PhD project “The Sharing City” on Facility Management on a city level. PhD student Rikke Brinkø is employed for the project and has so far delivered strong results.

Purpose

The project is a 3-year course, and aims to provide a new knowledge for the development of knowledge-cities, especially around urban development strategies, “building briefing” and Facilities Management. Part of the project focuses on the possibilities of sharing facilities and areas in new ways, for example buildings, meeting facilities, infrastructure, parking and more.

Theory and practice

Rikke Brinkø combines ongoing theoretical studies with an empirical approach, and presented a typology of concepts of “sharing spaces” in a knowledge city where sharing is done between private companies, public organizations and citizens in collaboration with Juriaan Van Meel and Susanne Balslev Nielsen from DTU. The typology was presented at the CIB conference in May 2014.
