2021 in review

Despite Covid-19, 2021 offered a lot of events and new projects. Here comes a review of some of the highlights of the year.

Roundtable discussions about green transition

Together with some of our largest member companies, Science City Lyngby arranged roundtable discussions concerning sustainability and green transition. The aim is to find out how we locally and globally can affect the green transition and contribute to a sustainable development.

The roundtable participants have forwarded several recommendations to our board, which we will continue to work on in 2022 in close collaboration with the Sustainability Committee of the municipality.

Data Sharing in Science City Lyngby

A member meeting in October marked the beginning of a shared Data Community in Science City Lyngby. The Data Community is established in collaboration with NIRAS and Microsoft, and is based on an aim towards promoting data driven development for the benefit of companies, the municipality, and its citizens. The project has already resulted in data collaborations between member companies and DTU. Additionally, we are participating in a Supermarket Hack with DTU Skylab, Danish Shopping Centers, and FØTEX in February, based on energy data.

Mentoring Program

More than 30 mentors were in the Fall paired with international mentees under the Greater Copenhagen Mentoring Program. Together with Nellebjerg Potentialeudvikling and Relocare Group, the program has gone through three rounds, and will start up a fourth round in the Spring of 2022.

RetailTech Lab is up and running

RetailTech Lab have had more than 20 startups through the lab in 2021. We have arranged events for startups, city representatives, and the citizen panel. Furthermore, the lab got a new lab director, Mette Hjerrild Holm, at the end of the year.

In November, we handed out the Danish RetailTech Partnership price for the first time together with Danske Bank. The collaboration between Zliide and Moss Copenhagen became the first winners of the price.

Knowledge & Wine went from online events to physical again

Knowledge & Wine could yet again be held physically. Six physical events took place this year. During the year we have visited RetailTech Lab, Bakken, Futurebox, and the GreenUp Accelerator Programme. LIFE Campus ended the year with a sold-out event at their new natural sciences learning center for school children.

DTU Masterclass

Science City Lyngby set focus on partnership models between companies and startups through two online masterclasses with respectively Alfa Laval and Aquaporin, who presented their view on the potentials in entering in partnerships, that reaches beyond the company’s area of responsibility.

Award Ceremony

Again this year Science City Lyngby was able to hand out the Golden Egg price together with the Israeli Embassy to a tech startup. The winner was Taxhelper. Also, the sustainability price of Science City Lyngby was handed out for the first time, and the winner was U/NORD.

Career Fair & International Citizen Day

For the third time, Science City Lyngby invited international talents to a Career Fair together with Copenhagen Capacity and partners. More than 300 talents applied to participate in the event of which 150 talents were selected to participate. 50 of the participants were matched up to specific job opportunities and had one-to-one interviews with the 14 companies and startups, who participated in the Career Fair.
