Peace, Freedom, and Unity: 80th Anniversary of Denmark’s Liberation
Meet locals and join the illuminated procession in Lyngby on the 80th anniversary of the ending of World War II. We all cherish peace and freedom and will mark it together on May 4th. Since May 4th, when the war ended, Danes have lit candles in their windows every year to mark and celebrate the end of the war.
As part of the celebration, we will walk through the city in an illuminated procession and sing songs together. You will also get the chance to taste wartime substitutes.
The program
- 6:30 PM – Mayor Sofia Osmani welcomes to the event at Stadsarkivet Frieboeshvile (in Danish). There will be served cake and coffee, and you can explore the local history.

- 9:00 PM – Illuminated procession along Lyngby Hovedgade.
